Icy footpaths see growing hospital numbers
The slippery conditions on footpaths saw an influx of patients at Mölndal Hospital.
By midday on Thursday they had had 60 patients requiring emergency care with suspected fractures.
Elizabeth Meiton, medical head of unit at Mölndal hospital emergency, told Göteborgs-Posten that wrist and ankle fractures were the most common injuries, as well as twisted knees and shoulder injuries.
- They occur when people go out and fetch the newspaper, when they go from the garage or to work. It goes so fast [...] We prefer real snowstorms, it doesn't get as slippery then, said Elizabeth Meiton to Göteborgs-Posten.
Mölndal is the only place that receives emergency orthopaedics cases. Despite the increase in patients, they aim to keep waiting times under five hours. Concussion cases are received by Sahlgrenska.
